Have you fallen prey to the idea that living in a fit, healthy body is a gift of youth that has long passed you by? You may think you have excellent evidence that this is the case based on your weight, lab results, stiff joints, uncomfortable clothes, medications, sleepless nights, brain fog, moodiness and lethargy. But you’d be wrong.

Inside, your body is working hard to keep you alive as long and as efficiently as possible. There are multiple ways we know this is the real truth, not the least of which is watching many people live a long time in an unhealthy body.

Sickness does not have to be the normal result of increasing in life expectancy, maturity, knowledge and experience. What a gift it is to live a long time, to see your family blossom, to have years of life together with people you love and work that’s meaningful. This treasure cannot be discounted. In fact, the more we appreciate the gift of living long, the better our lives become.

When we go without food for at least 16 hours, our body starts to take out the trash. It recycles or repairs old damaged cells through the process of autophagy (which literally means self eating). If for no other reason, this should help you realize what a powerful tool fasting can be in your aging arsenal.

This is just one of the multiple reasons to consider adding fasting into your fitness routine. If spacing apart our meals improves the function of our biology, why wouldn’t we do it?

For most people, the thought of going without food when we feel hunger is very uncomfortable. And maybe we’ve had bad experiences when our moods tank if our blood sugar drops. But, this does not have to the reality because there are many, many ways to make fasting very simple, and I’ll go as far as to say, comfortable.

In fact, do you like to have a comfortable digestive experience? Do you like NOT feeling bloated after meals? Do you like NOT having acid reflux and gas? Do you like resolving IBS, constipation, diarrhea, food cravings, cramps and leaky gut? Do you like the feeling of no inflammation, extra fat and energy to spend exercising? Come on…I know you do and these are the outcomes of a healed body via fasting.

The other side of the nutrition coin is that we need to stop eating food that isn’t real. Food products that are marketed to look appetizing but are really a mixture of chemicals and cheap leftovers is not the way to eat healthy. BUT, one thing at a time. When we start to focus on meal timing through fasting, we AUTOMATICALLY will improve the quality of our meals. It’s really that easy.

We don’t get this kind of resolution and restoration with medications, surgeries or restrictive meal plans. We experience healing when our bodies have the time and energy to self-repair, not by covering symptoms with chemicals. When we give our digestion a rest, our bodies automatically go to work healing the biggest problems. And they do it without our attention or influence…all we do is NOTHING!

If fasting still scares you, consider working with me (and especially if it doesn’t!). There is very little that I love more than helping women feel better from the inside out. Let’s improve our outlook about our age and look forward to many years of a life well lived because we have developed a strong sense of cooperation with our physiology.
